How Do I Receive Dividends on Local Stocks?

How Do I Receive Dividends on Local Stocks?

Nigeria’s capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), require that Registrars pay investors' dividends to their bank accounts.

Investors are required to fill their respective Registrar's e-mandate form (you can download below) and submit at the nearest branch of their Bank. That allows unclaimed dividends and subsequent dividends to be credited to investors' preferred bank accounts.

When you take the e-mandate form to your bank, ensure they stamp it and you make a copy of it. That is the evidence to show your Registrar as proof your mandate is complete.

However, some Registrars require investors to submit a Signature Lodgement Form to get their signature specimen. You can download the form here.

For the Signature Lodgement Form, you only need to sign in the space provided for the Transferee's Signature and send to us via post to 6 Osborne Rd, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Why do I need to send the Signature Lodgement Form via post?

Registrars require that investors' signatures are not scanned. They require a fresh signature.

Who's a Registrar?

A registrar is an institution responsible for keeping records of shareholders after a company offers their shares to the public.

When a company needs to make a dividend payment to shareholders, the firm refers to the list of registered owners maintained by the registrar.

What is my Shareholder account number?

There's a provision on all e-dividend forms to fill the shareholder account number. Your Registrar has that information, so it's best to leave it blank. But ensure you tick the companies you own on the form.

Aside from filling other details on the form, the most important details to fill correctly are your bank account details, CSCS CHN and other personal data.

Do I have to fill this e-Dividend form every year for the same company?

No. You'll only have to fill the form once for a particular company.

If I buy more shares of that same company, do I have to fill the form again?

No. You'll only have to fill the form once for a particular company.

Download the e-Dividend form for the Registrar of the company you own below.
